The 12 Excuses of Christmas
Just for fun, I decided to make a list of some of my favorite excuses for NOT sticking to you program over the holidays. Read at your own risk. I would hate to think I've contributed to your festive delinquency!
1. I don't have the time.
What a load of baloney! ;-) By now, you should have multiple quick workouts at your disposal. If not, just pick your favorite three exercises and make a quick circuit. 3 rounds of 30 seconds each, with 30 seconds of rest in between is a 9 minute workout. Quit your bellyaching (just kidding, but not really!)
2. Too many things to do
This one is an extension of number one. Sometimes, though, it takes on its own qualities by distracting you while you're trying to workout. You start to warm up on your home treadmill and remember you have to throw in a load of laundry. You get the idea. Again, just use one of your quick workouts. Something is better than nothing.
3. It's too cold.
Then work out inside! ...or come spend some time in Florida with us!
4. I don't want to get sweaty before I ...
This is why working out first thing in the morning is so great. Workout first ... then take your shower ... case closed!
5. My mind too is preoccupied right now.
This is another extension of 1 & 2. Give yourself permission to have some time to yourself for 30 or 60 minutes. You'll thank me later!
6. But I have to ...
Another extension of 1, 2, and 5 ... Dang, can't you come up with something original?
7. I'll start back up after the holidays.
A ha! This is a juicy one. This one sidetracks some of the best intentions because there's an air of truth to it. In reality, it's just a big lie your subconscious is telling you! Don't fall for it!
8. Just one won't hurt me.
We say this to ourselves at the dinner table or at the pot-luck parties. While it's true in concept, most people can never "eat just one." BEWARE!
9. I have company.
Do you really have to spend every second of every day with them? I hope not, because restroom trips would be kind of awkward! ANYWAY ... don't be afraid to leave them for brief periods. Better yet, invite them to workout with you!
10. I'm travelling
The workout example I gave you in number 1 will work well as a hotel room workout. Depending on which exercises you choose, you won't need ANY equipment (i.e. push ups, sit ups, and squats)
11. Everybody's counting on me right now
How can you be of service to anybody if your health and energy are too low? Take care of yourself first, then you can do a better job of taking care of everybody else!
12. Life's short, why not enjoy it?
Okay, okay ... you kind of got me there, but have you ever considered the flip side? Life is too short to spend it in bad health and imprisoned by your own body. Don't you agree?
How did we do?
