About Bumper Plate

A bumper plate is a type of weight plate used primarily in olympic weightlifting and CrossFit training. These plates are distinct from traditional iron or steel plates due to their rubber padding, which covers the entire plate. This design feature allows bumper plates to be safely dropped from overhead during lifts, protecting both the lifting platform and the plates themselves from damage.

Bumper plates are available in various weights, typically ranging from 10 pounds to 55 pounds (or 5 kilograms to 25 kilograms). They are standardized in diameter, usually about 450 millimeters (17.72 inches), to ensure consistency in lift height and performance. The rubber padding not only provides durability but also reduces noise, making them suitable for indoor and home gym environments.
